Anybody can dump in oil and spin on a filter. What sets a Perpetual Motion oil change apart is that it’s done by ASE-certified technicians, using the exact oil weight your manufacturer specifies and a quality filter — and backed by a straight, honest answer about your car.
We don’t recommend work your car doesn’t need. If something needs your attention, we’ll show you and explain it before we touch a thing; if everything’s good, we’ll tell you that too. That’s the whole idea — all the care your car needs, and nothing it doesn’t.

The Right Oil for Your Car — and the Way You Drive It
Not every car needs the same oil, and not every wallet needs the most expensive one. We’ll match the oil to your vehicle, your mileage, and how you drive — then explain the trade-offs so you can decide. Here’s the short version.
Conventional Oil
The standard for many older and high-mileage vehicles. A solid, economical choice when your manufacturer calls for it and you keep to shorter intervals. We’ll tell you honestly if this is all your car needs.
Synthetic Blend
A middle ground — better cold-weather flow and protection than conventional, at a friendlier price than full synthetic. A common pick for daily drivers putting on Mat-Su miles.
Full Synthetic
The best protection for modern engines, turbos, and Alaska winters. Flows fast on a cold morning, holds up under heat and long intervals, and keeps your engine cleaner. Many newer vehicles require it — we’ll confirm what yours actually needs.
ALASKA ENGINE EXPERTISE
Why the Right Oil Weight Matters in an Alaska Winter
An oil change in Wasilla isn’t the same job as an oil change in Phoenix. When the temperature drops below zero, oil thickens — and thick oil on a cold start is exactly when most engine wear happens, before the oil has even reached the top of the motor. The “W” in a weight like 5W-30 is the cold rating: the lower that first number, the better the oil flows the second you turn the key on a -20° morning.
We set every car up for the climate it actually lives in. That means the manufacturer-specified weight that protects on cold starts and still holds up when your engine is hot and you’re climbing the Glenn.
If you’re commuting from Palmer, running back roads, or letting it idle in the driveway to warm up, the right oil is the difference between an engine that lasts and one that doesn’t. We’ll make sure yours has it.
Why Wasilla Drivers Trust Us — Even With the Small Jobs
The reason drivers keep coming back isn’t a gimmick — it’s that we treat your car like our own and tell you the truth about it. We won’t replace, or recommend replacing, a part without double verification that it’s actually failed. You’ll know what’s wrong, what it costs, and what’s genuinely necessary before we touch a thing.
That’s how we’d want it told to us — and it’s why a small job like an oil change is how a lot of our customers first get to know us. We treat every customer like family, every single time, and we work to fix every car right the first time.

"We want to make sure you understand what's wrong, what's needed to fix it, and what it'll cost — before you agree to anything."

Oil Change FAQ — Wasilla & the Mat-Su Valley
How often should I change my oil in Alaska winters?
It depends on your oil and how you drive, but Alaska is harder on oil than most people think. Lots of short trips, long idle-warmups, and deep cold all shorten oil life. As a general guide: conventional oil every 3,000–4,000 miles, synthetic blend around 5,000, and full synthetic 5,000–7,500 miles — but always follow your manufacturer’s interval, and lean toward the shorter end if you do mostly short, cold-start trips around town. We’ll give you a real recommendation for your specific car when you come in.
Do I really need full synthetic for an Alaska winter?
Not every car requires it, but full synthetic flows better on a cold start, which is exactly when your engine is most vulnerable up here. If your manufacturer requires it, we’ll use it. If it’s optional, we’ll explain the trade-off and let you choose — no upselling.
What’s included in your oil change?
Manufacturer-spec oil and a quality filter, installed by ASE-certified technicians, plus an honest answer about anything your car needs — and nothing it doesn’t. No upsell, no scare tactics.
Do I need an appointment, or can I just call?
Give us a call at (907) 203-5500 and we’ll get you scheduled — we answer the phone 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday, and 9 to 3 on Saturday. There’s no online booking; a quick call is the fastest way to find a time that works.
Can you do a full tune-up while you’re at it?
Yes. If your car’s due for more than oil — filters, plugs, and fluids — we can take care of a full tune-up in the same visit. Mention it when you call and we’ll plan the time.

5-Star Review
Mike was extremely patient; walking me through every little thing and making me feel relaxed. He walked me through what I really needed and I left with an amazing quote. He is an amazing mechanic and is for the people. His wife is also really kind, she offered me a beverage and provided comfort, assuring I was in the right place. Mike did a thorough diagnostics test and offered to test ride afterward. Perpetual Motion bought me the best thing of all time: peace of mind. Don't hesitate!

5-Star Review
After having issue after issue with the service department at wasilla dodge. I was in desperate need of a trustworthy mechanic. Mike was super respectful and honest! He took my truck and put it on the lift and test drove it three different times. He figured out what the issue was in the last few hours of his inspection. And called me saying he only felt comfortable charging me for an hour worth of work. I am very grateful and will be using mike at perpetual as my new shop. I have already recommended him to everyone I know!
